Planning application

A Planning Application for the Branxton Energy Storage Facility was submitted under the Section 36 application process to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit on 24th November 2022  application Number ECU0004659 and is a live application.

The submitted planning application for the Branxton Energy Storage Facility is comprehensive in its description and analysis of design, ecology, noise, heritage, landscape and transport features of the project.  Documents submitted as part of the Planning Application include detailed studies covering:

  • Indicative layouts

  • Coal Authority report
  • Transportation Swept Path Analysis
  • Geophysical investigations undertaken in consultation with the East Lothian archaeologist
  • Landscape Visualisation assessment including 5 viewpoint visualisations plus photomontages of finished project infrastructure where appropriate
  • Zone of Theoretical Visibility assessment
  • Community Engagement programme including public presentations in the local community to allow local residents to engage with the applicant and Environmental specialists and provide feedback.
